Atomic Highlights: Spring 2025 Product Release

Matt Valkovic
May 27, 2025

Earlier this month, our CEO Lucas Babbitt shared our product vision — upstream data capture, workflow engine automation, downstream payment execution, and complete cash flow reporting — and discussed some upcoming product updates.

As we’ve discussed, the traditional client payment lifecycle for RIAs and Family Offices is disjointed, characterized by manual data entry, fragmented workflows, and operational risk.

Our team has been heads down executing on the heart of our product, making everything smarter and more flexible. We’re excited to release the first of many enhancements to the Atomic Insights platform. Our core focus for Spring 2025 has centered on:

Workflow engine:

• Multi-payment type infrastructure supported for wires, journals, ACH transfers, and checks
• Edit a payment request for wires, journals, ACH transfers, and checks

Downstream payment execution:

• Bulk actions enabled for payment instruction PDF files and Schwab’s Import Transactions upload
• Enhanced payment instruction PDF file to include all required payment detail information and firm branding

Learn more about each of these enhancements:

Workflow Engine

What it is: Atomic’s Workflow Engine replaces manual maker-checker steps with automated validations for every payment request. By integrating with custodians and internal systems via API, Atomic pre-checks balance availability, LOA status, margin preferences, and more—flagging exceptions in real-time and moving payment requests through a secure, compliant, and fully customizable approval workflow.

Key Highlights:
Multi-payment type infrastructure supported for wires, journals, ACH transfers, and checks

• In Atomic Insights, a payment request is the way our users facilitate money movement for their clients. It includes core details like process date, from account, to account, and payment amount — and kicks off the payment workflow to ensure a payment’s safety and soundness.
• With this release, in addition to wires, payment requests can now be created to send Journals, ACH transfers, and Checks to our custodian partners. Our custodian and bank partners can receive money movement requests via APIs, SSO, CSV imports, and PDF instructions.
• When a user creates a payment request, they can select the respective payment type and the payment details will adjust accordingly. For example, when doing a journal, the system will allow a user to journal from one client account to another. When setting up a check payment, the system allows a user to enter payee information for the check’s recipient.

Create Payment Request Modal

Edit a payment request for all payment types

• When moving a payment request through our workflow engine and performing the required maker-checker tasks, inevitably a user will need to fix or change a payment’s details.
• In this release, payment requests are now fully editable outside of the workflow tool. If a user needs to make a change, they can exit the workflow — the status and tasks will be saved — and they go into our new edit modal from the Actions column to make the change.
• Users can edit the following details: assignee, process date, sending account, special instructions, recipient account, payment amount, and the memo.

Downstream Payment Execution

What it is: With direct API connections to banks and custodians coupled with PDF instructions and CSV exports, Atomic Insights Downstream infrastructure transmits payment instructions automatically, eliminating the need for manual data entry at this critical stage.

Key Highlights:
Bulk actions enabled for payment instruction PDF files and Schwab’s Import Transactions upload

• On the Payment Request table, we added functionality that allows users to take bulk action on generating PDF payment instructions or generating a CSV export for Schwab’s Import Transactions tool. Users can filter on and select specific payment requests to create the PDFs or CSV files.
• Generating PDF instructions in bulk allows Family Office client service teams to deliver multiple payment instructions to their client for approval before sending to the client’s bank for payment execution.
• Bulk CSV exports allow RIA operations teams to process tens or even hundreds of payments at once across their client base for transactions like capital calls. The CSV export is formatted to match Schwab’s Import Transaction header requirements.

Enhanced payment instruction PDF file to include all required payment detail information and firm branding

• On our payment instruction PDF, we include all relevant payment details for a client’s bank to process the instruction, from the client’s account details, payment type and amount, beneficiary information, and any special instructions and authorizations.
• We also allow firms to add their branding, from a logo in the header to their firm address and other contact info in the footer.
